Something that is disturbing to me is that catcalling is normalized in childhood with cartoons, like Animaniacs. In the video, the well-known phrase from this show "Hello, Nurse" is used repeatedly to get the attention of the Nurse with an hourglass figure and pretty face. The sexual tension is implied in the tone in which the phrase is said, and in the sexy depiction of the Nurse. The song is sung by Wacko, who is a little boy, so the whole concept is creepy and teaches boys that the proper response to seeing an attractive woman is to catcall her. Throughout the video, Wacko sings about the Nurse's achievements in life such as having multiple PhD's, being artistically talented, winning a Pulitzer prize, and strangely enough-- being politically correct. Directly referring to street harassment (disguised as playful flirting), Wacko sings, "Whatever street she's walking down, everybody turns around, and says, "Hello Nurse!" The nurse walks on with a seductive look and does not have a voice, she seemingly accepts these catcalls as normal.
I think that they wanted to create an image of a perfect woman with all the mentions about the Nurse being smart and talented, but sets an impossible standard for young girls who may watch this show. The message is that a perfect woman can have a successful career, but at the end of the day, she is still a sexual object who serves to please men. The people who made this may have intended to show that the Nurse has all these achievements including being a bombshell beauty. But I read into it as: she has all these achievements despite being a bombshell, and that it doesn't matter that she has those achievements, she is there to serve the male gaze.
